just a general question that I have my own opinion on but I'd like to hear other viewpoints concerning it:

titling your work. whether it's poetry or fiction or whatever...

how do you go about it? and why do you do it that particular way?

I typically try to make the title relevant but not a direct line or phrase from the work. Occasionally I do that simply because I just CANNOT think of anything else (and those are typically the pieces that I change the title on later).

i am terrible for having punning titles, but sometimes i like that because it throws people off the scent. sometimes the title comes first. i have no hard and fast rules and if something seems like it is becoming embedded i try to cut it out.

i'm weird about titles too...when i was younger, i hated that i could never remember the names of smashing pumpkins songs because the titles were so random. so i try to make sure they have something to do with the writing...but usually it's more of the essence of the writing than the subject

I try not to force titles; if one doesn't come, I wait.
Usually connected to the poem in some way.

I've noticed, when on writing sites, if I'm reading a writer's work for the first time, I try to pick a piece that has a simple title, like an object or concept I'm familiar with, because if they can wow me with the ordinary then they're definitely worth reading.

Oh, and I try to avoid being pretentious with my titles; no latin or obscure references. I can't pronounce half the tracks from AFI's Black Sails in the Sunset album and that never seemed right to me.
Nowt wrong with a bit of enigma though lol.

Hi Paul. As you're aware, I know sweet FA about technical internet stuff, but I was wondering whether there's any way for members to get an alert or something when they get a comment on posts? It's tricky remembering how many comments you've had already on each piece. Cheers.

a friend of mine likes to stick his thumb up his butt and watch andy griffin re-runs while he pleasures himself. Could this be dangerous or is he a freak or what ?

Just Joking...

I just joined the site and found the link while looking up reviews for Mona Lisas Menopausal Woman.

Good to be on board.
