Write No Cliches ... Pull No Punches ... And Keep Going All Night

Wendy Grimsley's Writing for February 2008

Writing

tribal dance

i know the difference between
the skins of kindred and the packaging of toys
some familiarity speaks like the radio
or the microwave and puts the baby to sleep
like the white noise of the womb
heart beats the first percussion
and if that meme falls on dance floors
like rhythmic thumps of hip to hip
smacks like the tips of fingers on bongo flattery
then i am just a figure eight
unbreakable circuits of earthly pattern

valediction

Some two-faced god got me spinning
on coins flipsides, got me thinking
that you've thrown disposal on display
like hiding something in plain sight
I never trust life that fears the grip
got you between the pages, under my thumb

in competetion with pin up dreams
allows one night to binge
a life time to purge

somewhere someone made plans

diamonds big enough
to shut her up
for another 12 months

and i am screaming
standing still
handing over my life
in a plastic card

and in return

cheerios-- 5 for 10
3 box…

thin

interlaced between the web of your ribs
each finger delicately falls
and i note the ergonomics of god

i've sheltered my eyes from bodies before
beaten, broken, dead and used
but now i am crawling with the truth and light
that used to be fear-- feeling (for once)
the importance of thrust

the energy in these walls is schizophrenic
i want to burn them down and drag you out

does the soul rest when it's in my hands
or does it seep between the cr…
